History of Junejo caste

Junejo is a hereditary title of the Sindhi community in Sindh province of Pakistan. The Junejo caste is believed to have originated from Upper Sindh during the reign of the Talpur dynasty in the 18th and 19th centuries. The Talpur rulers granted the Junejo family the title of Nawab in recognition of their services to the state.

During the British colonial rule in India, the Junejo family continued to serve as important landowners and feudal lords in Sindh. After the partition of India in 1947 and the creation of Pakistan, the Junejo family played a leading role in the country’s politics. One of the most prominent Junejo personalities was Muhammad Khan Junejo, who served as the Prime Minister of Pakistan from 1985 to 1988.

It is originated from the history of (Noori jam tamachi) Junejo’s were the descendents of jam juno khan, brother of jam tamachi who become the king of sindh, jam and juno fought together, so those who were in the favour of jam juno kham becomes “Junejo”.

Today, the Junejo community continues to be involved in politics, business, and social activities in Sindh province. While there is no official record of their exact population, it is estimated that there are several hundred thousand Junejo people living in Pakistan, mainly in Sindh.
